San Francisco – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement marking 17 years since the terror attacks of September 11, 2001:

"Seventeen years ago, America and the world were forever changed by the barbaric acts of terror on the morning of September 11. In a moment, 3,000 precious lives were cruelly taken, and the innocence and sense of security of a generation were lost. Yet, at our nation's darkest moment, America showed the world our true greatness – from grief we found strength in one another and from our pain and fear we found unity and hope.

"Every September 11, we come together in communities across the country to remember the fallen, honor the heroes who rushed to danger to save the innocent and reaffirm our enduring support for the friends, families and survivors who continue to inspire us with their resilience and faith. As the post-9/11 generation begins to come of age, it is vital that we ensure that neither the immense loss our nation endured nor the inspiring resolve Americans showed in the face of tragedy are ever forgotten.

"While the smoke and rubble may have cleared and our cities rebuilt, our memory of that tragic day continues to inspire us to act. As we honor the memories of the fallen, we must continue our fight for those still suffering from 9/11-related illnesses and meet our commitment to the brave men and women in uniform who continue to keep our nation safe. We must remain faithful to our duty to ensure America always remains safe and free as we endeavor to build a more hopeful and just future worthy of their sacrifice."
