Pelosi Statement on Laphonza Butler’s Appointment to the United States Senate

San Francisco – Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after Governor Gavin Newsom appointed Laphonza Butler to fill the late Senator Dianne Feinstein’s seat in the United States Senate:

“It is with great enthusiasm that I congratulate Laphonza Butler on her appointment to the United States Senate!  A lifelong champion for women and girls and working families, Laphonza has proven her leadership in the fight for the values that Senator Feinstein stood for: including freedom, safety and justice for all.  It is clear that, working with Senator Padilla and Members of our House Democratic delegation, Senator-designate Butler will be effective from the start in delivering for the people of our magnificent Golden State.
