San Francisco – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today in honor of Memorial Day, which will be observed on Monday, May 30:

“On Memorial Day, we honor the courageous women and men who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. At the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington Cemetery, the Presidio Main Post and National Cemetery in San Francisco, and across the country, Americans pay tribute to the fallen members of our armed forces whose valor secured our freedom and whose sacrifice protected the United States of America.

“Today, with remembrance and respect, we salute those who gave their ‘last full measure of devotion’ to secure our freedom. These American heroes – of many races and religions, regions and heritages – have earned our enduring reverence and boundless gratitude. They advanced justice, equality, and liberty for all Americans. In solemn reflection, we cherish their service and commemorate their sacrifice. On this day and every day, let us honor their noble memories with our principled actions.

“We have a sacred responsibility to ensure that the loved ones of our fallen heroes – our Gold Star Families, caregivers, military families, and their fellow veterans – have the resources they need, the support they deserve, and the benefits they have earned. Let us forever honor their memories with the promise that just as our military pledges to leave no one behind on the battlefield, we must leave no veteran behind when they come home.”
