Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement following President Obama’s remarks today:

“President Obama today reiterated that the United States has and always will meet its obligations and his commitment to putting Americans back to work, while we continue to tackle our nation’s fiscal issues.

“Democrats will continue to work to address the number one priority of America’s families, creating jobs. Helping our small businesses and entrepreneurs attract customers, expand, and hire will grow our economy and help reduce the deficit. And we will continue to hold true to our values of protecting and strengthening Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security.

“In the long-term, we agree that we must seek a balanced approach that will reduce the deficit, create jobs to grow our economy, and strengthen the middle class.”
