Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after the House passed by unanimous consent a short-term continuing resolution that will fund the government until October 4. The House will vote early next week on a six-week continuing resolution:

"Democrats insisted that we meet the immediate needs of those suffering from disasters without sacrificing American jobs. We stood firm against Republican efforts to balance the budget on the backs of those hit by natural hurricanes, floods and earthquakes disasters by destroying good-paying American jobs.

"Now that another Republican-manufactured shutdown crisis was averted, we must now address the top priority of the American people: jobs.

"President Obama has put forward the American Jobs Act to put Americans back to work rebuilding our nation, to strengthen small businesses so they can thrive and hire, and to grow our economy in a fiscally responsible way. It's critical to our nation's economic recovery that this jobs bill becomes law."
