Pelosi Statement on the 51st Anniversary of Roe v. Wade

San Francisco – Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi released the following statement marking the 51st anniversary of Roe v. Wade:

“Fifty-one years ago, the Roe v. Wade decision established a pillar of health and freedom in America.  For half a century, this landmark decision safeguarded the constitutional right to choose for every woman everywhere.  But with the devastating Dobbs decision, the extreme MAGA supermajority on the Supreme Court took a wrecking ball to Roe — allowing radical right-wing state lawmakers to pass draconian restrictions on women’s reproductive rights and freedoms.

“It is outrageous and unconscionable that, today, one in three women of reproductive age across America are living under some form of abortion ban, limiting their access to the reproductive care and family planning they need.  Meanwhile, MAGA extremists in Congress continue plotting a path to a national abortion ban, while blocking Democrats’ Women’s Health Protection Act to restore the protections of Roe. 

“The vast majority of Americans know that reproductive care is health care.  Today, and every day, Democrats remain fully committed to fighting for the health and freedom of every woman — and every American.”
