Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi delivered remarks at a press availability after a bipartisan meeting with Prime Minister Narenda Damodardas Modi of India. Below are the Leader's remarks:

"Thank you very much, Mr. Speaker. It's an honor to join you in welcoming Prime Minister Modi to the Capitol of the United States – to the center of the oldest democracy in the world, the leader of the largest democracy in the world.

"We congratulate him on his electoral success, the mandate he has received. We look forward to working with him on issues that relate to global economic growth, global security, ending terrorism and, of course, addressing the issue of climate change.

"We thank him. We thank him for India's gifts to the United States, including nonviolence – which was the basis of our civil rights movement – as well as the enormous contribution of so many Americans of Indian descent, who have contributed to the success of our country.

"Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Thank you, Mr. Prime Minister."
