Pelosi Recommends Philip Coyle for Base Realignment and Closure Commission
Washington, D.C. -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi announced today that she has recommended Philip E. Coyle III of Los Angeles to President Bush for nomination to the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Commission.
Coyle is a former Assistant Secretary of Defense and Director of Operational Test and Evaluation in the Department of Defense from 1994 to 2001. He is an expert on missile defense systems, and oversaw the testing and evaluation of more than 200 defense acquisition systems. He has served as Laboratory Associate Director and Deputy to the Laboratory Director at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, California.
"Philip Coyle is an expert on the needs of our military, and he understands the lives of military families," Pelosi said. "He has a strong record as an independent and distinguished voice on the defense of our nation. He would make an outstanding addition to the BRAC Commission."
By law, the President and the Democratic Leader of the House must consult on one of the nine nominations to the Commission. All nominations must be confirmed by the Senate. The Commission is charged with making recommendations for the realignment or closure of military installations in the United States.
