Washington, D.C. â€" Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today commending Filipino veterans for their service to the United States during World War II in honor of Veterans Day:

â€Å"More than 60 years ago, our nation asked Filipino soldiers to take up arms to protect the United States and the Allied forces. Their heroic efforts played a critical role in the outcome of the war and helped lead our nation to victory.

â€Å"The democracy they valiantly fought to protect has not come without a price, because as all veterans know, freedom is never free. These Filipino troops stood alongside their American brothers, witnessing the same horrors that all soldiers face in combat. The struggles they have experienced on and off the battlefield prove their patriotism and their willingness to sacrifice everything for their adopted country.

â€Å"On this Veterans Day, it is appropriate to recognize the role that the Filipino soldiers played in securing the freedom that we as Americans enjoy today. We remember the sacrifices they have made and are thankful for their service to our country.”
