Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after the House passed H.R. 5822, Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations for FY 2011, which will provide funding for quality medical care for veterans and the construction of facilities for training and housing our military.

“Today, with passage of the Military Construction/VA Appropriations bill, the House has made an investment in benefits for our nation’s veterans and quality medical care for those who have recently served in Iraq and Afghanistan. This legislation also continues the work begun last year to ensure timely and predictable funding for the VA, with advanced appropriations.

“Keeping with the work of the New Direction Congress to ensure fiscal responsibility, this legislation cuts initiatives that aren’t working and reinvests those funds where they can have the most impact.

“The support of veterans service organizations such as the VFW, Disabled American Veterans, AMVETS, and Paralyzed Veterans of America for this legislation affirms that we are meeting our pledge: just as the military leaves no one behind on the battlefield, we will leave no veteran behind when they come home.”
