Pelosi Meets with Sunset District Small Businesses Amid Trump’s Economic Turmoil
San Francisco – Yesterday, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi visited San Francisco’s Sunset District to meet with local small business owners and hear firsthand how Republican economic policies are straining neighborhood businesses.
During a walking tour with members of the Sunset Merchants Association, Speaker Emerita Pelosi visited several small businesses, including Andytown Coffee Roasters, Far Out Gallery, Stacy’s Hair Studio, After Hours Ramen and Vanida Thai Kitchen. The visit focused on the growing affordability, energy challenges, and new Trump Administration policies facing small businesses operating on thin margins in an increasingly volatile economic environment.
“Small businesses play a vital role in our economy, creating jobs, wealth and opportunity—then along came Trump’s tariffs,” said Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi. “Democrats are committed to reversing the disastrous Republican economic policies and once again making the American dream attainable for small business owners and working families."
"One of the Trump Administration’s new criteria required businesses to be 100 percent citizen-owned. One of our owners is a family trust, and we had to track down a 94-year-old grandmother to sign an affidavit just to qualify for an SBA loan," said Lauren, co-owner of Andytown Coffee Roasters. "It’s making it harder to access capital that should be available to people coming to this country to employ Americans and build their dream."
