Washington, D.C. - Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement in response to funds allocated to San Francisco's public transportation systems under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act:
â€Å"The Department of Transportation announced today it would allocate funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to the Bay Area for transit capital improvement, which includes $67 million for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, $48 million for BART, and $9.3 million for Caltrain.
â€Å"This much-needed money will not only be used for track and infrastructure rehabilitation to make subway and cable cars, buses, and trains run more smoothly and efficiently, but will also create jobs in this economy and continue the agenda of the 111th Congress and President Obama to reduce dependence on foreign oil and to protect our environment and combat global warming. Once again, we are seeing the benefits of the swift implementation of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act in the Bay Area.â€Â
