Washington, D.C. â€" At the Democratic Caucus Issues Conference in Williamsburg, Virginia on Saturday, Vice President Al Gore made a gripping presentation to House Democrats on global warming.  He outlined the strong scientific evidence of climate change, described the devastating effects to the earth that are likely to result, and made the case for urgent action to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases.

â€Å"Vice President Gore’s compelling presentation on global warming was both a wake-up call and a call to action,” said Pelosi.  â€Å"The science is clear.  It is long past time to take decisive action to prevent climate change.  The energy proposals in the House Democrats’ Innovation Agenda, which will move our nation toward energy independence, will also help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.  And we must do even more.

â€Å"Yet as we look forward, the President budget seems stuck in the past.  President Bush has already failed to back his commitment to move America toward energy independence with federal dollars.  House Democrats know that tackling global warming with a serious and sustained commitment to reducing greenhouse gases is one of the great challenges of the 21st century â€" and a challenge we simply cannot afford to not meet.”ÂÂ
