Washington, D.C. â€" House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on reports of price gouging on gas prices:

â€Å"As Americans reel from the tragic effects of Hurricane Katrina, price gouging must not be tolerated.

â€Å"After passing an energy bill before recess that did nothing to address skyrocketing gas prices, but gave billions of dollars to oil and gas companies at the expense of consumers, the President and the Republican Congress must do everything in their power to prevent gas price profiteering and punish those who are exploiting this tragedy for monetary gain. The American people expect and deserve nothing less.”
