Leader Pelosi led a Congressional Delegation to Jordan where they met Sunday with King Abdullah II in Amman
Amman, Jordan – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi is leading a Congressional Delegation and on Sunday the delegation visited Jordan where they had an audience with His Royal Highness King Abdullah II.
“Our delegation was grateful for the warm hospitality of King Abdullah II who hosted us for a working lunch and a thoughtful exchange of views on critical regional and economic security, and cooperation issues,” Leader Pelosi said. “We appreciated not only the King’s hospitality but his invaluable insight into the challenges facing Jordan and the region. Our delegation reiterated the longstanding American commitment to Jordan’s prosperous future.”
The delegation also met with the Jordanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ayman Safadi to discuss regional security and diplomatic efforts. The delegation also participated in briefings led by U.S. Embassy Amman staff and were greeted by the U.S. Marine detachment at the Embassy.
Later, the delegation visited Dahiet Al Ameer School, which was constructed by USAID in 2011 and serves many Syria children who are refugees from the continuing conflict there. The delegation was led on a tour of the school by Minister of Education Dr. Omar Razzaz, which included visiting several classrooms.
“In all of our meetings, Members were particularly interested in assessing the Syrian refugee and humanitarian crisis,” said Leader Pelosi. “It was inspiring to learn about and see firsthand the commitment Jordan has made to educating the hundreds of thousands of refugee children.”
