San Francisco – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement celebrating the upcoming opening of the new, safe roadway that links the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco. This weekend the road will be closed as workers finalize roadway connections and transfer traffic to the new permanent roadway.

"This is a great moment for San Francisco as we complete the transformation of Doyle Drive and open the new Presidio Parkway. This modern parkway ensures safety in an earthquake and eliminates dangerous conditions for the 120,000 vehicles travelling over Doyle Drive every weekday, with separated northbound and southbound roadways and tunnels.

"This project represents the best of our city: our innovative thinking and entrepreneurial spirit, respect for our natural resources, and beneficial partnerships between the public sphere and private sector. I was proud to fight for this project in Congress, securing $130 million in the Recovery Act, $18 million from across federal transportation funding, and an innovative $150 million federal TIFIA loan for this public-private partnership.

"As the Republican Congress races toward the expiration of the Highway and Transit Trust Fund on July 31, Presidio Parkway reminds us how long-term investments in our infrastructure create jobs, increase our safety, and improve the quality of life for all the hard-working families who commute over our roadways. As we enjoy travelling along the new Presidio Parkway, construction continues with extensive landscaping and restoration that will integrate the roadway into our magnificent Presidio, connecting the Main Post with Crissy Field and eventually establishing 13 acres of new Presidio Parklands. We must make long-term investments in our infrastructure locally and nationally, so that we can achieve better paychecks and bigger infrastructure for all hard-working American families."
