Pelosi Announces San Francisco Fire Department Will Receive More Than $600,000 from Government Funding Package
San Francisco – Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi announced that $637,200 in new federal funding is headed to the San Francisco Fire Department to build a new Training Facility in Hunters Point. This investment was included in the government funding package that was signed into law today by President Joe Biden.
“Firefighters are our nobility: courageously putting their lives on the line to protect our families and our homes,” Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi said. "It was my privilege to secure this new federal funding, which will help the San Francisco Fire Department build a new, modern training facility in Bayview-Hunters Point — and we must continue to support this important effort. Doing so will help make sure our heroic firefighters are even better prepared to respond to emergencies, especially in underserved communities, while honoring our most sacred duty as lawmakers: to keep people safe from harm.”
“A 2024 Community Project Funding award will significantly strengthen the San Francisco Fire Department’s (SFFD) ability to provide fire suppression, wildland, mutual aid, emergency medical services and disaster response to ensure the health and safety of its population, protection of its infrastructure, and ability to respond throughout California,” said Jeanine Nicholson, Chief of Department. “Awarded funds will directly and profoundly impact the SFFD’s capability to reach multiple marginalized communities of San Francisco, as the proposed Emergency Operation Center is located within the department’s new Division of Training facility and will be constructed within the historically underserved Bayview/Hunter’s Point neighborhood; ensuring the transformation of this currently blighted site into a vibrant, secure, and active public safety and community asset.”
