Pelosi Announces Appointments for Bipartisan, Bicameral Negotiations on Legislative Framework for Deficit Reduction

San Francisco – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement announcing her appointments for the bipartisan, bicameral negotiations on a legislative framework for deficit reduction to be led by Vice President Biden. Leader Pelosi has appointed Assistant Democratic Leader James E. Clyburn of South Carolina and Congressman Chris Van Hollen of Maryland, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee.

“In his role as Assistant Democratic Leader, Congressman Clyburn has leadership responsibility over appropriations matters. Mr. Clyburn’s effective leadership will be a great asset in these negotiations with his record of consensus building and his years of experience on the Appropriations Committee.

“This week, Congressman Van Hollen showed his leadership in creating jobs, strengthening the middle class and responsibly reducing the deficit by developing the Democratic budget. Congressman Van Hollen’s keen understanding of both the federal budget and the challenges ahead will make him invaluable to these negotiations. In addition to his service on the Budget Committee, Congressman Van Hollen has served on the Ways and Means Committee."
