Pelosi Announces $8.1 Million to Renovate Buchanan Street Mall Park Blocks
San Francisco – Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi announced that $8,124,800 in new federal funding is headed to San Francisco to renovate three blocks of Buchanan Street Mall. This investment, coming from the Department of the Interior and National Park Service’s Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership, will help provide new amenities in this public space, including a performance stage and seating areas, a picnic and barbeque area, multiple playgrounds, an adult and senior exercise area, a half court for multi-sports, lighting, landscaping, and information kiosks.
“In San Francisco, we take great pride in our public spaces, which are free and open for San Franciscans of all ages to enjoy,” Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi said. “This new $8.1 million federal investment will help us transform Buchanan Street Mall with a host of spaces and amenities, building an inclusive community hub in the heart of the Western Addition. In doing so, we make it easier for families, friends and neighbors to gather, to exercise, to enjoy the arts, and to strengthen the bonds of community in our City.”
“The Buchanan Street Mall community members have shaped every aspect of this project. Thank you to Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi for her dedication and support to ensure our city continues to have equitable parks and open spaces for all,” said San Francisco Recreation and Park Department General Manager Phil Ginsburg.
