Leader Pelosi and Mayor Newsom Announce Cooling Off Period in Alcatraz Cruise Labor Dispute

San Francisco â€" House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and Mayor Gavin Newsom today announced a cooling off period in the labor dispute between Alcatraz Cruises, a Hornblower affiliate, and the International Organization of Masters, Mates & Pilots Pacific Maritime Region, the Inlandboatman’s Union of the Pacific, Marine Division, and ILWUs. The parties to the dispute have agreed to a series of meetings this week hosted and monitored by the Office of Democratic Leader Pelosi and the Mayor’s Office to continue the progress made in negotiations over the last few days. The cooling off period will commence at 5 p.m. Monday, September 25, 2006 and will end at midnight on Saturday, September 30, 2006.

â€Å"We are grateful to both parties for their willingness to come to the table and urge them to continue this process,” Leader Pelosi and Mayor Newsom said. â€Å"We are committed to assisting the parties in any way possible to successfully reach an agreement that would ensure representation for the workers, provide for excellent service to Alcatraz visitors, and enhance commerce while preserving peace on the waterfront.”
