Supporting Equal Pay for Equal Work
On Tuesday, I was pleased to mark Equal Pay Day with my Democratic colleagues in Congress. Equal Pay Day is an opportunity to honor the ingenuity and hard work of every American woman, and to recognize how much more we must do to ensure they earn what they deserve.

Women nationwide are currently earning only 77 cents, on average, for every dollar earned by men. That’s a yearly gap of $11,084 between full-time working men and women. The Paycheck Fairness Act helps close this gap by closing loopholes in the Equal Pay Act and providing effective remedies for women who face blatant wage discrimination.

'Equal pay for equal work' is not just a slogan; it is the foundation for the health, growth, and prosperity of our families and our economy. When a woman is paid fairly, our whole nation prospers. Let’s work together to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act now.

Moving Forward to Prevent Gun Violence
Yesterday, a bipartisan coalition in the Senate sent a clear message: it’s time to move forward on legislation to prevent gun violence, to keep weapons out of the wrong hands, and to ensure the safety and security of our schools and families.

Americans deserve a fair, honest debate on the most effective ways to protect and defend our communities. The Senate voted to keep that debate open yesterday and Senate leaders pledged to bring up votes on these measures, along with bans on assault weapons and large-capacity assault magazines. House Republicans should listen to the American people and work with Democrats to enact meaningful gun violence prevention legislation without further delay.
