Honoring our Veterans

Honoring our Veterans
Each Veterans Day, we come together as a nation to honor the patriotism, courage, and service of all of our men and women in uniform. We pay tribute to those who served, those who returned from battle forever changed and those who gave their lives abroad so we could be safe here at home.

On Monday, I was pleased to tour the San Francisco Veterans Administration Medical Center’s (SFVAMC) Community Living Center and visit with resident veterans. The Community Living Center provides post-acute rehabilitation and restorative care, respite care, and long-term care for eligible veterans. SFVAMC is home to cutting-edge and life-saving research that will benefit our veterans.

My Democratic colleagues and I understand that the best way to support our veterans is through job creation. As part of our “Make It In America” initiative – a plan to create jobs and strengthen our manufacturers – we enacted a measure to put veterans to work in the good-paying, clean energy jobs of tomorrow. Recently, we introduced legislation that strengthens training initiatives and encourages businesses and government contractors to hire service members. President Obama’s American Jobs Act includes tax credits to businesses that hire unemployed veterans and wounded warriors.

On the battlefield, the military pledges to leave no soldier behind. As a nation, let it be our pledge that when they return home, we leave no veteran behind.
