Focusing on Job Creation, Honoring a Legacy of Discovery and Exploration

Pelosi Update

Focusing on Job Creation
This week, the House overwhelmingly passed the VOW to Hire Heroes Act, part of President Obama’s American Jobs Act. The legislation creates tax credits to encourage businesses to hire servicemembers and those with service-related disabilities. The bill also provides veterans with the training they need to find a job.

My Democratic colleagues and I will continue to urge House Republicans to pass the rest of the American Jobs Act to put people to work, boost small business, and expand our economy. We understand that Americans can’t wait any longer for Republicans to offer their own jobs agenda. The President’s plan, along with House Democrats “Make It In America” initiative will strengthen our manufacturing, technological, and industrial base, put people to work rebuilding our roads, bridges and railways and keep teachers, police and firefighters on the job. Congress must act now to create jobs, strengthen our middle class, and expand our economy.

Honoring a Legacy of Discovery and Exploration
On Wednesday, the Congress was honored to bestow the Congressional Gold Medal on American astronauts John Glenn, Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins. These four pioneers represent the highest hopes of a generation who inspired our nation to new heights of greatness and knowledge and ignited the fires of innovation and rekindled the flames of scientific progress. The American people will be forever indebted to their spirit, their actions, and their dedication.
