Celebrating Women’s History Month
During Women’s History Month, we look back with pride over our nation’s movement toward equality and look forward with hope toward even better days of progress. We recognize that we stand on the shoulders of giants: the many who struggled, suffered and prevailed on behalf of the advancement of women. And we recommit to opening wide the doors of opportunity for future generations of women.

We must also remain focused on women’s health and fight back any attempts to undermine it. In the last year, Republicans have pushed a package of extreme legislation to reduce women’s access to preventive health services. This week, Senate Republicans supported a proposal that would allow an employer or insurance company to claim a vague ‘moral conviction’ as an excuse to deny women health care coverage. Recently, House Republicans held a hearing on women’s health and refused to allow a female witness put forward by the Democratic Members of the Committee to testify; instead, they began the hearing with an all-male panel of witnesses.

While some may attack women who come forth to speak on this important issue, Democrats will always stand up for women’s health and women’s voices. Video from the Democratic hearing on women’s health can be found here.

Building Ladders of Opportunity
After more than 423 days of GOP control of the House, Republicans have failed to offer a jobs agenda, voted to end the Medicare guarantee, and voted to preserve tax breaks for Big Oil. Democrats have a different path. Democrats are working on the top priorities facing the American people: creating jobs, strengthening small businesses and the middle class, bringing down gas prices, and creating a new politics free from special interests.

We must build ladders of opportunity for anyone willing to work hard, be responsible, and play by the rules – so everyone can succeed.

By the Numbers: The GOP Agenda

  • 423: Days Republicans have been in charge
  • 0: GOP jobs agendas
  • 2 million: Jobs potentially destroyed under GOP bills
  • 31: Times House GOP have voted against taking up Democratic jobs legislation, including China currency legislation that would help create 1 million American jobs
  • 3: Times House GOP have voted to end the Medicare guarantee and protect tax breaks for Big Oil, millionaires and corporations shipping jobs overseas.
