Celebrating the Affordable Care Act
Today, we mark nearly three years since President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act into law – enacting a measure that stays true to our core values of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all Americans. This law expands our competitiveness, promotes wellness and prevention, and enhances the economic security of the middle class. It enables Americans to pursue their dreams, start a business, change jobs, or care for their families with the certainty and security of affordable, quality health insurance.

Americans across the country are already benefitting from the protections of this landmark law. More than 100 million people are receiving free preventive services, such as cancer screenings and blood pressure tests. Young adults are finding coverage under their parents' plans; seniors are seeing a stronger Medicare and a smaller bill for their prescriptions; children cannot be denied care due to a pre-existing condition. And soon, being a woman will no longer be a pre-existing medical condition.

The Affordable Care Act has transformed lives, communities, and our society for the better in the past three years. Moving forward, we must defend this law and keep acting to make history for our country and progress for the American people.

Strengthening our Promises to Future Generations
Yesterday, House Republicans passed a budget that is nothing more than more of the same. It features the Romney/Ryan policies that the American people rejected last fall. The GOP plan proposes – for a third consecutive year – to end the Medicare guarantee, raise costs for seniors, and undermine a key pillar of seniors' health and economic security. Democrats have continued to stand up for the needs of seniors by putting forth an alternative plan that strengthens Medicare and the promise of caring for our seniors for generations to come.
