As we have done in the past, the American people will stand united to confront the impact of this storm and start the work of recovery. Congratulations Giants!
The San Francisco Giants have once again made us the proudest city in baseball. As our team brings the second World Series victory to our hometown, we celebrate them for their excellence at America's game. On Wednesday, I was honored to participate in the World Series Parade and Civic Celebration to celebrate the Giant’s four game sweep of the Detroit Tigers. When it comes to America's national pastime, our team and our city are number one.

Towards a Healthier Future
On Sunday, I was pleased to deliver remarks at the opening general session of the American Public Health Association (APHA) Annual Meeting. Our nation’s doctors and nurses, academics, social workers, and mental health professionals work to protect patients from harm, prevent illness and disease, and provide care to Americans so they can live well. When Democratic majorities in the House and Senate enacted health care reform, our aim was clear: to secure quality, affordable care for every American. We put health decisions in the hands of patients and doctors, not insurance company bureaucrats.

Central to reform was the effort to truly tackle prevention and wellness across the life span. That is why we created the Prevention and Public Health Fund – an unprecedented investment that will help prevent disease, detect it early, and manage conditions before they become severe. Democrats will continue to protect our investments in prevention and wellness and keep our country on track to a healthier future.

Investing in Women Leaders
One of the ideas that will remake the world, promote peace, and expand prosperity is ensuring that women have a seat at the table. Last Friday, I was honored to be inducted into the International Women’s Forum (IWF) Hall of Fame. Now is the time to invest in leadership in women across the world. From nation to nation, women and young people are weary of war. They are fed up with leaders who use ideology, religion and war to distract from the real challenges to peace, prosperity and democracy: a lack of education, a failure to provide jobs and economic opportunity, and the subjugation of women. The face of power is changing. As women take their rightful seat at the table, women will change the world.
