Today, I joined Congressman Mike Thompson, Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren and Bay Area community partners to celebrate the passage of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act. While no single federal law can solve our nation's housing crisis overnight, this legislation takes an important step toward lowering costs, expanding our housing supply and helping more families find a safe, affordable place to call home.
Housing is about more than bricks and mortar. It is about dignity, security and opportunity for every American family. This legislation represents an important step toward lowering costs and expanding opportunity, yet the President declined to sign it—refusing to attach his name to a bipartisan achievement that helps working families who are struggling to afford a place to live.

For The Children
It was a great honor to join Friends of the Children–SF Bay Area as they dedicated the Nancy Pelosi Garden For The Children at their new home in Bayview today. While I am humbled by this recognition, I am even more grateful for what this space represents: a place where young people can learn, grow and dream. I was proud to help secure federal funding for their new Youth Center because investments in children are the most important investments we can make.
For years, I have believed that public service is about one thing above all else: our children. Every child deserves someone who believes in them and the opportunity to reach their fullest potential. Friends of the Children lives that mission every day through long-term mentoring, compassion and unwavering support, reminding us that when we invest in children, we plant seeds whose impact will grow for generations.

Protecting a Sacred Promise
This week marked 61 years since President Johnson signed Medicare and Medicaid into law—providing millions of vulnerable Americans with a pillar of health and economic security. He did so in Independence, Missouri, alongside President Truman, whose vision helped lay the foundation for one of the most consequential achievements in our nation's history.
For more than six decades, Medicare and Medicaid have embodied our belief that every American deserves access to quality, affordable health care. As Republicans gut these vital lifelines to finance more tax breaks for the wealthy, our fight to protect the care that millions of Americans rely on has never been more important.
