Pelosi Update

Dignity and Independence
Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of joining Self-Help for the Elderly and more than two dozen aging and disability advocacy organizations at the newly renovated South Sunset Clubhouse. It was a joy to celebrate the advocates who help San Franciscans receive care, share a meal, remain connected and live independently.

Together, we have expanded access to health care, protected essential benefits and strengthened the community services that allow people to remain in their homes. That work includes securing $850,000 for Self-Help for the Elderly’s Safe Passage transportation program—and we will continue fighting to ensure every San Franciscan can age with dignity and security.

Building the Bay
Earlier this week, I was honored to receive the Silver SPUR Emerita Award alongside civic leaders David Friedman, Connie Martinez and William Witte. Each has used their talents to strengthen our communities—from making buildings safer and expanding access to the arts to creating more places for families to call home.SPUR understands that the Bay Area’s challenges cross city and county lines—and our solutions must do the same. By connecting housing, transportation and opportunity, we can build a more affordable, resilient region whose promise reaches everyone who calls it home.

Where Trump’s Roads Lead
Seven years ago, I told Donald Trump directly: “With you, Mr. President, all roads lead to Putin.” On the anniversary of that confrontation, President Trump signed an executive order waiving new sanctions on Russia that Congress passed with overwhelming bipartisan support and he signed into law only last month.

This unconscionable capitulation betrays America’s commitment to democracy and insults our men and women in uniform as Russia helps Iran target American forces. Republicans and Democrats alike must condemn this surrender to a dictator who invaded Ukraine and murders innocent civilians.

Democracy’s Library
Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of joining the Internet Archive to celebrate its work preserving knowledge and making information available to everyone. Libraries have always been close to my heart: long before I was elected to Congress, my first public service role was as a San Francisco Public Library Commissioner.

Through the Wayback Machine and its preservation of government records, the Internet Archive gives people the tools to understand what their government is doing and hold it accountable. We must protect the freedom to read and ensure that our shared history remains accessible for generations to come.
