A More Perfect Union
A Home for Hope
This week, I joined President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama and leaders from around the world for the opening of the Obama Presidential Center on Chicago’s South Side—a powerful new space dedicated not simply to preserving history, but to inspiring future generations to shape it. Rooted in the belief that ordinary people working together can achieve extraordinary things, the Center was designed as a place for people to gather, reflect, connect and bring change home to their own communities.
President Obama’s message has always challenged Americans to believe not only in what government can do, but in what people can do together—and this Center carries that spirit forward. It stands as a living investment in community, democracy and civic participation while preparing the next generation of leaders to meet the challenges ahead. I was proud to celebrate this historic opening and all those who helped make this vision a reality.

Costly Consequences
I joined MS NOW's The Briefing with Jen Psaki this week to discuss how the consequences of America's decisions continue to shape our role in the world. In 2015, President Obama worked with our allies to negotiate an agreement that prevented Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon—proving that American leadership and diplomacy can strengthen our security without sending troops into another war.
President Trump tore up that agreement and promised something better—but delivered neither peace nor security. Instead, Americans paid the price through a failed war of choice, higher costs at the pump and billions in taxpayer dollars spent.

Freedom’s Work
On Juneteenth, we remember the stain slavery left on our nation and reflect on our long journey toward justice, freedom and equality—recognizing that true freedom was delayed for more than two years after emancipation.
This week, we celebrate generations of Black Americans who bravely fought back against bigotry and honor all those who continue their work of building a more perfect union. The pursuit of justice remains unfinished, and each generation carries a responsibility to move our nation closer to its founding ideals.

Dream Deferred
Fourteen years ago, President Obama opened the door of opportunity for Dreamers who know no other home than America through DACA. That action reflected our nation at its best: recognizing that our strength has always come from the aspirations, talent and contributions of those seeking a better future.
Today, Dreamers continue to embody the values that make America strong—working, serving and enriching communities across our country. Yet fourteen years later, temporary protections remain no substitute for permanent certainty. Congress must finish the job and finally deliver lasting protections for Dreamers.
