Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi Joins President Clinton on Historic Trip to Europe

Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), the ranking Democrat on the House Foreign Operations Subcommittee, has been named to represent the House of Representatives on President Clinton's history-making trip to Europe next week. The President and Russian President Boris Yeltsin will sign the NATO-Russia Founding Act in Paris on Tuesday. The Act sets the stage for NATO expansion later this year.

"As the ranking Democrat on the House Foreign Operations Subcommittee, I have closely followed the negotiations that have preceded this historic event and have supported funding to help certain countries prepare for NATO membership. It is an honor to represent the people of San Francisco and my colleagues in the House at the signing ceremony," Pelosi said.

On Wednesday the delegation will proceed to The Hague for the Commemorative Event for the 50th Anniversary of the Marshall Plan, and then on to Rotterdam for the "Thank You America" Celebration.

On Thursday the delegation travels to Great Britain where the President will hold his first meeting with Prime Minister Tony Blair since Mr. Blair's election earlier this month.
