"I commend the Administration for its decision to sponsor a resolution condemning China's human rights practices at the U.N. Human Rights Commission in Geneva. Legislation urging the Administration to move forward in Geneva was passed unanimously by both houses of Congress (99 - 0 in the Senate; 421 - 0 in the House)
For too long, world governments have given the Chinese government a pass on its terrible human rights practices. By moving forward at Geneva, the United States takes a leadership role in shining the bright light of public attention on restrictions on freedom of speech, religion, association, and the press in China and Tibet.
We know that the Chinese government has been lobbying against such a resolution for months. The Administration must now move quickly and aggressively at the highest levels to muster international support for the resolution."
