Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), a member of the House Appropriations Committee, today announced full committee passage of the Transportation Appropriations bill. "This action moves us one step closer to funding for projects like BART to the Airport and the seismic retrofit of the Golden Gate Bridge, projects which are important to the economic and environmental vitality of the Bay Area. It also moves these important transportation projects closer to completion," Pelosi said.
Rep. Pelosi included funding for the following projects in the Transportation Appropriations bill:
$74 million for the Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) for the extension of BART to the San Francisco International Airport;
$52.5 million for Golden Gate Bridge Seismic Retrofit;
$9.375 million in funding for construction of a new downtown bus terminal to replace the outdated Transbay Transit Terminal (TTT)*;
$9.375 million for the South Bay Basin Bridge to Hunters Point*;
$3 million for Automated Vehicle Locator System. Allows the San Francisco Municipal Railway (MUNI) to track transit vehicles in order to monitor schedules, improve travel time, safety and security, and increase rider satisfaction;
$1.25 million for development of a new MUNI bus garage at Islais Creek (first payment toward full $2.5 million authorized).
This funding is provided to follow up on projects authorized for San Francisco in the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century signed by the President on June 9th.
