Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is to receive the National Council of La Raza's Congressional Award at the Ninth Annual Congressional Awards Dinner this evening. "I am honored by the National Council of La Raza's recognition of my work on behalf of the Latino community and all people who seek respect and fair treatment from our government. In San Francisco, the culturally rich Latino heritage adds so much to the diversity of our city. The Hispanic community's commitment to family and democratic values helps to make our nation a better place," Pelosi said.
The award is presented to the legislator who has shown unqualified support for issues of concern to the Latino community. According to Raul Yzaguirre, NCLR President: "Representative Nancy Pelosi is well known for her outstanding record on human and civil rights, as well as her work to preserve access to benefits for legal immigrants. She has been equally courageous as one of the few members of Congress to uphold a fact-based and respectful debate on immigration policy."
In addition to Congresswoman Pelosi, Senator Pete Domenici will also be honored.
