California Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi's amendment to add $67 million in disaster assistance to the Kosovo Defense Supplemental Bill was today accepted by the full House of Representatives. "This money will go directly to feed the Kosovar Albanian victims of Mr. Milosevich's brutal ethnic-cleansing campaign," declared the San Francisco Democrat.
The $67 million in the Pelosi Amendment is an addition to the $591 million already allocated to disaster relief. "I saw the desperate need for this new money first hand," observed Pelosi, who was part of a Congressional Delegation that traveled in late April to Albania and Macedonia for the purpose of investigating the conditions in the refugee camps and the effectiveness of the NATO bombing campaign. "This is the kind of humanitarian assistance that the American people overwhelmingly approve," said Pelosi.
