Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) today joined with Housing and Urban Development Secretary Andrew Cuomo in announcing $41 million in grants for local housing and community development programs. "These grants will support services that address the housing requirements of San Francisco's diverse population. From AIDS housing to emergency shelters to CDBG economic development programs, all San Franciscans will benefit," Pelosi said.

Among the initiatives that will benefit as a result of these grants are those supporting affordable housing, public facilities, neighborhood commercial revitalization, and transitional housing for the homeless. HOPWA funds will be used to meet urgent housing and supportive services needs. "HOPWA responds to the housing concerns of people with AIDS, ensuring they have a safe and secure place to continue battling the disease without the fear of being left on the street," Pelosi said.
Rep. Pelosi also extended her thanks to Secretary Cuomo and President Clinton for their support of programs important to San Francisco.
