WASHINGTON -- Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-SF) announced Friday that San Francisco State University will receive $4.4 million for its Head Start projects. These funds provide the second installment of federal funding to help SFSU serve eligible recipients in San Francisco. "We are grateful to Department of Education Secretary Richard Riley and President Clinton for recognizing the needs of our community", Pelosi said Friday. "This investment will help educate our children and improve their long term academic achievement," she said.
Head Start provides comprehensive early child development services to low-income children, their families, and communities. Since 1965, Head Start has served more than 18 million children and increased their educational opportunities. Parents whose children get the benefit of Head Startís early education feel respected, included, and satisfied with this programís assistance and service delivery.
