Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation has released $936,325 for the Civic Center Plaza in San Francisco. Pelosi was successful in earmarking the money in the House Transportation Appropriations budget last year. "The money released today is an important step in the completion of our Civic Center Plaza and making San Francisco a more livable community," said Pelosi.
The Civic Center Plaza has been designed as a pedestrian-oriented livable community project. The overall project is to cost almost $37 million to be funded from private financing and foundation sources.
The money released today will go to livable community improvements such as site lighting, traffic signals, pedestrian signage, crosswalks, disability access and other public safety features. The money will also aid in providing BART and MUNI connections.
