Representative Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) today announced the Federal Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention is providing support to the City and County of San Francisco for its San Francisco Juvenile Justice Local Action Plan - Delancey Street Initiative to support the implementation of a comprehensive effort to reform the City's juvenile justice system. "Delancey Street has successfully worked with at-risk youth providing them with skills and self-respect. For many of these young people, a future life of crime has been replaced with hope and opportunity," Rep. Pelosi said.
The Juvenile Justice grant of $274,409 will fund Delancey Street's "Circle of Care" plan designed to interrupt the cycle of chronic crime by providing life-altering intervention at continuous key points in the lives of young people, transforming a youth's negative cycle into a positive one. The Delancey Street Foundation and its Director, Mimi Silbert have won national and international recognition for their pioneering work transforming the lives of thousands of young men and women who had been cast aside by society.
