Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) today announced two grants for San Francisco criminal justice projects from the U. S. Department of Justice. "These grants are highly significant because they support innovative approaches to making our streets safer," said Pelosi.
One of the grants, for $750,000, will help the Life Leaming Academy create a structured leaming community in which adjudicated and at-n'sk youth 14-18 years old can find academic and vocational success and leam to live productively in the social mainstream.
The other grant, for $75,000, will enable the Center on Juvenile and Cn'minal Justice to undertake a project designed to humanize the "graduates" of Juvenile Court and publicize the best practices of the juvenile justice system. The project will publish a book describing the lives of 25 successful former juvenile court clients and disseminate their stories through the communications media.
