Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) today challenged the Clinton Administration to act on its acknowledgment of the Chinese government's terrible human rights record. "If this hard-hitting report is to mean anything, the Administration must now act on its words. It can start by immediately announcing it will pursue a resolution condemning China's human rights practices at the U.N. Human Rights Commission in Geneva," Pelosi said.
"The Chinese government has once again embarked on a severe crackdown on the brave supporters of freedom and liberty in China. The regime will not tolerate any attempt to question the authority of the Communist Party," Pelosi said. "The State Department Human Rights Report documents that reality. The question is whether this Administration will adjust its policy to reflect its report."
