May 15, 2002
Washington, D.C. -- House Democratic Whip Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) announced today that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded San Francisco State University a continuing $11.4 million grant to fund the San Francisco Head Start Program. San Francisco State will use this grant to continue to provide educational, nutritional, and health development services for children.
Since 1965, the Head Start Program has provided beneficial parenting and childhood development services to low-income communities.
“Head Start is an essential program, offering assistance that is critical for the well-being of many of our families,” said Congresswoman Pelosi. “With the help of this grant, San Francisco Head Start will no doubt make a crucial difference in providing children, as well as their parents, the support they need during one of the most critical stages of their lives.”
