Pelosi Statement on Death of Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan

March 26, 2003

Washington, D.C. -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement tonight on the death of Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan:

“Tonight I offer my heartfelt condolences to the family of Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan. His death is a source of great personal sadness and is an enormous loss to our country.

“Senator Moynihan was an exceptional scholar, an eloquent statesman, and an outstanding leader. His love for our country was matched only by his desire to make it better. His service in the United States Senate and in four Presidential administrations was an inspiration and set a new standard for public service. I join so many people across the country who are awed by his brilliant life and career.

“I hope it is a comfort to his family that so many people share their loss and are praying for them at this sad time.”
