Pelosi: 'Bush Plan to Privatize Federal Workforce is Another Assault on Working Families'

May 30, 2003

Washington, D.C. -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on the Bush Administration’s attempt to privatize an additional 425,000 living wage jobs, bringing the Administration closer to its goal of privatizing 850,000 federal workers:

"President Bush’s plan to privatize 850,000 federal workers is yet another example of his Administration’s assault on America’s working families. The President’s plan would force thousands of federal workers to compete for the jobs they currently hold, but without living wages, health care, or other benefits.

"Time and time again, this Administration has attempted to deny worker’s rights and turn back the clock more than 100 years on worker protections. The President is proposing we treat workers as if we were living in the 19th Century, not the 21st."
