On the Status of the BART to San Francisco International Airport Extension Project

The conference agreement on the 1997 Transportation Appropriations Act affords the House and Senate committees a sixty day review period to assess the status of the BART to San Francisco International Airport extension project. This sixty day review period ended on January 27th.

The new Chairman of the Senate Committee has asked that the Administration not enter into the full funding grant agreement until he has sufficient time to review the status of the BART project.

As a Member of the Appropriations Committee, I have been assured by Chairman Frank Wolf of the Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee that although he asked for clarification on a number of questions, the date for action by the House has passed. He has also indicated that the House has no plans of raising an objection to Department of Transportation entering into a full funding grant agreement on the BART project.
