Pelosi
Tribute to Monterey City Councilwoman Ruth Vreeland
January
27 , 2004
Washington,
D.C. -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi spoke on the House
Floor tonight in a tribute to Monterey City Councilwoman Ruth Vreeland,
who died on January 25:
"Mr. Speaker,
I want to join our distinguished colleague, the gentleman from California,
Mr. Farr, in paying tribute to Ruth Vreeland, who passed away on
Sunday. As one who admired Ruth immensely, I thank him for his magnificent
tribute.
"As one
who worked with Ruth for over 25 years in the California Democratic
Party, I know of her love of country. She was a true patriot. She
loved our country. She loved its people. She loved its natural environment.
She loved our civil liberties. She was a model citizen.
"My daughter
Christine, who worked with her on the platform committee, would
want to join with me in expressing our sympathies to Ruths
family in saying that we will remember her with great affection,
admiration, and respect. I hope it is a comfort to members of Ruths
family that so many people mourn their loss and are praying for
them at this sad time.
"Again,
I thank the distinguished gentleman from California, Mr. Farr, for
his leadership in presenting the excellent credentials of Ruth Vreeland
to our colleagues."
