Elections determine the future our children will inherit. Given the alarming magnitude, seriousness and scope of Russia’s efforts to undermine our elections, we must have an independent, bipartisan investigation to protect the integrity of our democracy.
In San Francisco alone, one in five seniors live in poverty. Like so many in our city, Americans across the country are concerned about whether the promise of a secure, healthy and dignified retirement will be there for them.

United Nations Day
Seventy-one years ago, from the city of the Golden Gate, the word went forward: ‘We the Peoples of the United Nations’. A few months after the UN Charter was signed in San Francisco, the United Nations officially came into being on October 24th, 1945.
Voting is the foundation of our democracy, and every American should make their voice heard in this election. On November 8th, 2016, Americans will determine the policies of our government and the direction of our nation. Registering to vote takes less than three minutes.

Each Labor Day, we celebrate the hard-working women and men who are the backbone of our country. Working people are the foundation of America’s strength, and as we honor them we also pay tribute to the labor movement that has led progress for hard-working families across our history.

Harvey Milk’s courageous, trailblazing leadership stands as one of the great beacons of progress of our country. This week, I had the privilege of joining U.S. Navy Secretary Ray Mabus at the ship-naming ceremony of one of our newest Navy oiler ships: the USNS Harvey Milk.
Love Conquers Hate
Two months ago, an act of unfathomable hate claimed 49 lives at Pulse nightclub in Orlando. Yesterday, it was my somber privilege to meet with survivors and the family members of those who lost their lives, and to lay flowers at the makeshift memorial outside Pulse.
This past week I had the distinct honor to lead a Congressional delegation to both Italy and Afghanistan. In both countries, our discussions were focused around shared diplomacy, climate change, human rights, counterterrorism, and ways in which we can make the international economy accessible and fair for everyone.
