Last night, the House passed a landmark amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act that calls for a repeal of the discriminatory â€œDonâ€™t Ask, Donâ€™t Tellâ€ policy. It acknowledges the tens of thousands of lesbian, gay, and bisexual service members who serve honorably in our military, and finally allows them to do so openly and without fear of prejudice or persecution.
Last Saturday, I had the privilege of touring the Maxine Hall Health Center, a community health center serving the Western Addition community in San Francisco. This health center successfully meets the needs of a diverse population â€“ eliminating barriers of language and location through telemedicine and translation, and increasing access to quality care as a right and not a privilege.

By doubling the funding for scientific research over the next 10 years, this bill will spur innovation, modernize manufacturing, and create jobs.

On Thursday, the House passed the bipartisan Home Star Energy Retrofit Act, by a vote of 246 to 161. The legislation will provide immediate incentives for consumers to make their homes more energy-efficient â€“ creating jobs here at home, reducing our dependence on foreign oil, and spurring energy savings for American families.
