Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) today announced that the San Francisco Police Department will receive $3.25 million to pay for 26 additional police officers under the U.S. Department of Justice's Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) program. Today's grant was awarded under the COPS in Schools program, which provides up to $125,000 to fund the salary and benefits of each officer hired over three years.
"This grant will greatly enhance the Police Department's ability to teach our students about crime prevention and substance abuse, to monitor troubled students, and build respect for law enforcement," said Pelosi.
To date, the COPS Office has funded more than 1,300 positions nationwide under the COPS in Schools program.
