Pelosi
Statement on the Death of Congresswoman Patsy Mink
September 30, 2002
House Democratic Whip Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) issued the following statement today on the death over the weekend of Congresswoman Patsy Mink (D-HI):
"I offer my heartfelt condolences to Patsy Minks family. I know that they will miss her every day, as will all of us in Congress who were lucky enough to consider her a mentor and a friend.
"By her work and by her example, Patsy Mink redefined what is possible for a generation of women and for our daughters. She was the driving force behind Title IX, which mandated gender equality in education. She gave strength to the powerless and voice to the voiceless. Her legacy of justice and equality will live on in classrooms and playing fields around this great nation."
