Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi today released this statement after President Trump nominated Alexander Acosta to serve as Labor Secretary following Andy Puzder’s withdrawal from consideration:

“The collapse of Andy Puzder’s nomination is another example of President Trump’s poor judgement.  Hopefully, his new nominee will not carry out the long-standing Republican schemes to suppress workers’ voices, wages, retirement security and safety.

“While we learn more about Alexander Acosta’s record at the National Labor Relations Board and Department of Justice, President Trump shows no signs of deviating from the Republican anti-worker agenda perfectly embodied in Andy Puzder.  Instead of fighting for bigger paychecks and worker safety, protecting our democracy and whistleblowers, the Trump Administration and Congressional Republicans are doing everything in their power to advance their destructive, anti-worker agenda.

“Four weeks into the Trump Administration there is still no sign of a jobs bill or any meaningful attempt to put American workers first.  Hard-working Americans deserve a Labor Secretary who is dedicated to raising the minimum wage, champions overtime pay, fights for workers, and is committed to creating good-paying jobs for all.”
